Small businesses and start-ups in New Jersey soon may have another avenue for reaching investors.
Madison, NJ— On Tuesday, December 9, 2014, a coalition of 17 business groups, advocacy organizations, associations, local and bi-national chambers of commerce in NJ hosted the 2nd Annual NJ Immigrant Entrepreneur Award (NJIEA) Program at the Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurship, part of Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Silberman College of Business.
Mario Casabona, an angel investor best known as the founder of TechLaunch, was awarded the top prize at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s second annual Immigrant Entrepreneur of the Year ceremony on Tuesday.
Mario Casabona, founder of Clifton-based technology accelerator TechLaunch, was named 2014 Immigrant Entrepreneur of the Year at the second annual NJ Immigrant Entrepreneur Awards (NJIEA).
From grocery store aisles to college campuses to PTA meetings, the startups that pitched at the October NJ Tech Meetup have products they hope will improve significant aspects of everyday life. All of the participating startups came out of the past class of the TechLaunch accelerator based in Clifton.
Everyone knows they should be drinking more water to stay healthy and hydrated, but actually remembering to do so can be a challenge. In fact, 43% of Americans drink four cups or fewer per day, according a 2012 study from the Center for Disease Control. That’s where The Hug, now on Kickstarter, comes in. The Hug solution includes a sensor band that wraps around just about any water bottle to track your H2O consumption, and an accompanying mobile app that reminds you to drink when your hydration levels are low.
On July 14, 2014, the seven startup companies that have developed underTechLaunch’s LaunchPad program these last 16 weeks presented their business models at TechLaunch Demo Day 2014. The event gave these startup entrepreneurs the opportunity to promote their companies to a cross section of the New Jersey entrepreneurial community that included entrepreneurs, academics, and prospective investors who may be attending. As noted by TechLaunch founder Mario Casabona, the presentations are not a solicitation for funds, but a showcase of their business models and the great progress that has been made due to their participation in the TechLaunch Accelerator program.
